Piers Morgan was late for today’s Good Morning Britain due to comforting a colleague who had been in a car crash.
The presenter, who was recently trolled for his cheeky birthday post to his wife, swanned into the studio as co-host Susanna Reid was reading out the latest headlines and bowed for the camera before he sat down.
Explaining to Susanna where he’d been, Piers said: ‘What I was doing, I was in the make-up room and I was having a chat with the make-up artist, Catherine, who unfortunately had a car crash the other day, and I was just giving her my comfort and support – something that hasn’t crossed your mind.’
He continued: ‘So I was just showing a little bit of warmth and empathy towards a co-worker and then, of course, a procession of people began smashing the door down going “please, please, any minute now, the weather is going to end!”
‘And? The world isn’t going to end.’
‘We’d just quite like you to be here for the beginning of the programme,’ Susanna stated.
Piers hit back: ‘Did I miss anything?’
‘You missed your headlines!’ Susanna responded.
The pair then exchanged a few frosty comments, with Susanna sighing: ‘I hope you wanted to start today with an argument.’
Yesterday, Piers was forced to deny he’s the pigeon lady in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York after confusion mounted social media.
The broadcaster insisted that he does not play the notorious character, which was portrayed by Brenda Fricker in the 1992 movie, when Susanna presented him with a side-by-side image which bore an uncanny resemblance.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
