Piers Morgan clearly isn’t a fan of tardiness as he rinsed Matt Hancock for being late for their interview on Good Morning Britain.
The government finally ended their 202-day boycott of the ITV breakfast show on Monday, coincidentally just days after Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s chief advisor, Dominic Cummings, quit.
However the truce didn’t exactly get off to a positive start with Piers announcing that Hancock was running late.
Throughout the morning, Piers and Susanna Reid repeatedly promoted the interview telling viewers that Hancock would be on ‘after 8am’.
Viewers wondered whether Hancock had abruptly pulled out of the interview, with one joking: ‘He’s pied you, classic!’
Another quipped: ‘Boris hides in fridges, check the freezers?’ while another suggested: ‘Have you checked BBC or Sky News??’
Hancock finally showed up at around 8:40am and Piers confirmed: ‘2nd UPDATE: He’s turned up. Health Secretary @MattHancock live on @GMB now…’
As expected, Piers made good on his promise to ‘hold Hancock to account’ and began by pressing the MP on whether he supported the blanket government boycott of GMB.
Hancock explained that he was ‘busy’ dealing with the health crisis before listing off what he believed to be the government’s achievements in handling the pandemic.
After going back and forth for around 15 minutes, Piers managed to get in one last jab and said: ‘We hope it’s not another six months before we see you again,’ to which Hancock said he would be back on the show.
Piers hit back: ‘He said lying.’
The presenter announced yesterday that the government boycott was over, tweeting: ‘BREAKING: Just had a call from Downing Street.
‘The 201-day Government boycott of @GMB is over & Health Secretary @MattHancock will be appearing on the show tomorrow morning…’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
