There’s a brand new detective drama arriving on our screens this evening, with Professor T looking set to become our latest crime obsession.
The show originally aired exclusives on BritBox in June, but the six-part series will now air on ITV once a week week starting this evening (July 18).
It looks like an ideal Sunday night watch, based around an idiosyncratic main character.
Filming on the show took place in between lockdowns last summer, with production moving from Belgium to Cambridge.
But who is in the TV series and what’s it about? Here’s everything you need to know.
Who stars in Professor T and what’s it about?
Ben Miller is set to star as the eccentric lead character, Professor Jasper Tempest.
The criminologist with OCD works at Cambridge University and finds himself becoming an advisor to the police in unusual circumstances.
The professor considers himself a ‘studier’ of criminals, rather than someone intent on taking them down.
Episode one sees the character involved in a police investigation following an attack on Diana Tyson (Elizabeth Kate Back) on the university campus.
Speaking about the series, the actor said: ‘Professor T has it all: intriguing murders, dreaming spires, and a cast of unforgettable characters, each with their own fascinating secrets.

‘You don’t have to be a professor of criminal psychology to know the ITV audience will love it.’
It’s the first time Ben has been on our screens since his unexpected return to Death in Paradise.
He is joined by Emma Naom, Barney White and Frances de la Tour, who is known for her role as Miss Ruth Jones in 70s show Rising Damp and the Harry Potter films.
The trailer gives a taste of what to expect from the upcoming series, with the professor saying: ‘Crime is inherently traumatic. A narrow snapshot of the event encodes onto the brain. Within seconds this memory starts to become contaminated – once contaminated it can destroy everything.’
When does Professor T air on ITV?
The series will arrive tonight (July 18) at 9pm on ITV. Episodes will air weekly from then on.
