Rachel Riley admits Anne Robinson isn’t ‘the cuddliest person in the world’ as she finally addresses Countdown clash rumours

Rachel Riley has addressed rumours of tension behind-the-scenes of Countdown with Anne Robinson.

The 35-year-old welcomed her second child with partner Pasha Kovalev earlier this month, daughter Noa and in turn she’s been taking time out from Countdown.

However, since waving goodbye to the Channel 4 show for her maternity leave, rumours have been rife of a rift between Anne and Rachel.

Appearing on Lorraine, she said: ‘You’ve got some women there and they want to make something up.

‘I’ve seen the headlines of feuds escalating – I’ve been on maternity leave for about six to eight weeks.

‘[Anne’s] not the cuddliest person in the world, but it’s just a different show now, she’s making it her own.

‘She’s getting some stuff out of the contestants – sometimes it’s barbed, sometimes it’s funny, it’s just got a different flavour.’

Rachel previously admitted that due to the pandemic she’s barely been able to socialise with Anne, and subsequently hasn’t yet struck the same bond as she had with former host Nick Hewer.

The Sun recently reportedly how tensions had heightened, with a source quoted as saying: ‘Rachel and Anne had clashed for some time and for Rachel, enough is enough.

‘She has moaned about Anne a number of times and even said she would consider walking away from Countdown if the issues weren’t sorted.

‘Rachel went on maternity leave last month and the break from the set couldn’t have come at a better time.

‘She has really struggled with Anne and been backed by Susie, who has seen it all first-hand and has similar gripes.’

However, it’s claimed Channel 4 wants to keep both stars because their on-screen chemistry is ‘dynamite’.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV while Countdown airs weekdays at 2.10pm on Channel 4.
