Rebel Wilson claims management was against her losing weight: ‘I was earning millions as the fat girl’

Rebel Wilson has revealed that her team wasn’t too happy to hear that she was planning to embark on a weight loss journey.

The 41-year-old Australian actress shed 66lb (29kg) by changing her habits and outlook so she could become ‘the healthiest version of me’, rather than focusing on ‘a number or dress size’.

Joining Tuesday’s BBC Breakfast, Rebel explained how she got ‘a lot of pushback’ from her management when she told them she wanted ‘physically transform and change my life’.

‘They were like why? Why would you wanna do that? Because I was earning millions of dollars being the funny fat girl and being that person.’

Rebel went on to say that she knew she had an unhealthy relationship with food.

‘I knew deep down inside that some of the emotional eating behavior’s I was doing was not healthy,’ she continued. ‘Like I did not need a tub of ice cream every night.

‘That was not, that was me kind of numbing emotions using food, which wasn’t the healthiest thing.’

She added: ‘I think it was dealing with not being a natural performer, and having to perform every day. And that pressure and internal stress to be able to perform like that.’

In September, Rebel expressed her pride in prioritising becoming ‘a healthier version’ of herself as she reflected on her ‘year of health’.

Speaking on The Weekend Briefing podcast on LiSTNR, she explained: ‘It wasn’t about losing a set amount of weight, although I did put a goal originally of 75kg (165lbs) so I could have something tangible to work towards. But it’s really not about a number or a dress size, or anything like that.

‘It was just about being the healthiest version of me and I dedicated all of 2020 to doing that, and I’m proud of myself.’

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
