Lesley Sharp, star of Red Eye, devastated fans with her performance in the classic British film The Full Monty from the 1990s.
The 64-year-old actor plays Jeanie, Dave’s (Mark Addy) wife, in the 1997 film about six unemployed men who decide to perform a strip tease to raise child support funds for the main character Gaz (Robert Carlyle).
Lesley has been starring in viewers’ latest TV obsession, ITV thriller Red Eye, and a poignant scene from The Full Monty has resurfaced, leaving everyone in tears.
In it, Jeanie confronts Dave, whom she suspects of having an affair due to his emotional distance, but is actually suffering from body image issues ahead of their strip routine.
After Dave insists that he cannot perform, Jeanie responds, ‘Why not?’
On the verge of breaking down, Dave confides: ‘Look at me. Jeanie, who wants to see this dance?’
Jeanie replies simply: ‘Me, Dave. I do.’
YouTube user @erinbeepbeep5238 described the scene as ‘the sweetest and most touching’ in cinematic history, adding: ‘It still stays with me after all these years.’
Echoing their sentiment, @matthewlloyd3255 added: ‘Over 25 years later and my eyes still water.
@user-sz9wq9ow7 also said: ‘Brilliant scene.. it gets to me everytime I watch it. She just lifts him right back up again.’
In Red Eye, Lesley plays MI5 boss Madeline Delaney, who is in charge of extraditing Dr Nolan (Richard Armitage) to Beijing on suspicion of mudering a woman.
The drama has been popular with viewers, with many on X admitting they skipped a night’s sleep to bingewatch the entire series.
X user @KetvelinaA was among those gripped by Red Eye and wrote: ‘I didn’t sleep until two o’clock in the morning, but I watched until the most magnificent ending. Intense, exciting and captivating.’
Fans are in luck because Richard has previously hinted that there is a’strong desire’ for a second season.
‘I think there’s a strong desire to come back and do a second season,’ he shared.
‘We’d all like to discover more about these characters and to throw up another crazy scenario to see how they’d come.
‘I’d like to see Nolan more on the front foot. I’d like to see him more activated and dynamic because I’m like, who are you really?’
Red Eye airs Sundays at 9pm on ITV and is available to stream on ITVX.
