The release date for Rick and Morty season five has been released, with the hit comedy set to return over the summer on Adult Swim.

Fans don’t have long to wait, with the show confirmed for June 20 in the US.

Adult Swim also released a new trailer for the upcoming episodes, giving fans a taste of what’s to come.

The clip begins with the show’s much-loved characters running through an eerie forest, with Rick saying: ‘It’s too quiet.’

Summer Smith replies, cuttingly: ‘You skipped “quiet”.’

‘I didn’t skip s***,’ Ricky hits back. ‘It’s obviously quiet if it’s too quiet.’

The footage also sees Ricky appear in hologram form above the earth, before being surrounded by ‘cyberpunk birds’.

It looks like fans are in for more epic adventures in the new episodes.

While the episodes will air in June in the US, the upcoming fifth season doesn’t have a confirmed UK broadcaster just yet.

While plot details have yet to be confirmed for the new season, we do know that the new series won’t be directly addressing the coronavirus pandemic.

Makers of the show have also promised fans some ‘epic canon’ will be taking place.

One of the biggest questions still to be answered from season four came following the finale, which confirmed that Rick had cloned Beth during episode The ABC’s of Beth. Will the truth about her identity be revealed in the new episodes?

It’s not just season five that viewers can get excited about either. According to co-creator Dan Harmon, seasons five and six were being worked on at the same time.

Speaking during PaleyFest NY, Dan said: ‘We are more on schedule than we’ve ever been. Everyone has to run this bee colony remotely. So the honey just gets made more consistently. It’s working for us.’

Rick And Morty seasons one to four are available on Netflix.
