Ruby Wax ‘so frightened’ of Donald Trump as he kicked her off plane in car crash interview

Ruby Wax has recalled Donald Trump as one of her worst interviews, admitting she was ‘so frightened’ as he kicked her off a plane.

The TV star will relive her most iconic interviews in a new BBC Two series, When Ruby Wax Met…, with stars such as Madonna and OJ Simpson set to make an appearance in throwback footage.

In 1996, Trump invited her to tour his private jet but they didn’t exactly hit it off as she quizzed him about presidential ambitions.

Of course, Trump would eventually go on to become the 45th president of the United States, serving just one term before being defeated by President Joe Biden in the elections last year.

However, two decades ago, Ruby seemed to find the whole idea of the businessman launching a successful political career and laughed as he confirmed his plans to get to the White House.

Recalling how their rapport quickly soured, the comedian said on ITV’s Lorraine: ‘I thought he was joking, so I started laughing and that was the beginning of the end.

‘He frightened me so much that I started asking probably the stupidest questions I’ve ever asked somebody. So in a way, when somebody treats you like that, you become that.

‘Things were coming out of my mouth, I don’t know what I was saying but luckily on TV that’s OK. It looks like I’m doing it on purpose but I’m not, he’s really throwing me because he reminds me of my dad a little bit. That kind of disapproving look in thinking women are not in their right minds.’

‘So to me, it was a horrible interview. You feel a little toxic,’ she added.

Ruby, 68, said her interview with Trump was more unnerving than her meeting with former NFL player Simpson, who she said ‘tried to stab me with a banana’.

Simpson was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in 1995.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.

When Ruby Wax Met… starts on BBC Two on Sunday, August 22.
