Earlier this week, the cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13 was officially unveiled… and we can’t wait to see this new line-up of drag queens in action.

With the new series being launched on New Year’s Day, we haven’t got long wait to discover which queens have the charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent they need to go all the way and be named America’s Next Drag Superstar.

The cast includes several household names, including Kandy Muse, while star Gottmik is making history as the first trans man ever to participate in the competition.

Without further ado, here are the stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13.

Denali

Based in Chicago, Illinois, Denali is an experienced ice skater who takes inspiration from the elements for her drag.

‘I am the first Alaskan queen to ever come into the werk room on RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ the queen said in the introductory video posted by the official RuPaul’s Drag Race YouTube account..

‘If I have to lip sync, I just feel really, really bad about the other girl.’

Elliott with 2 T’s

Hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada, Elliott with 2 T’s has an extremely competitive streak.

‘If you didn’t come here to win and compete, why are you here? You can buy Instagram followers,’ Elliott said.

The queen has been doing drag for 12 years, describing their style as ‘high end housewife meets Jennifer Lopez’.

Gottmik

Gottmik is making history as the first trans man ever to compete on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

‘I need to be the first trans winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Period,’ the drag queen said.

Gottmik originally moved to Los Angeles, California to study fashion, but then achieved high levels of success in the beauty industry as a make-up artist.

Joey Jay

From Phoenix, Arizona, Joey Jay explained her preference for not wearing wigs, stating: ‘I’m one of those people, tell me I can’t do something, and I’m going to make you buy it at the end of the day.’

‘It is so validating [to be on Drag Race],’ Joey Jay said.

The drag queen earned her place on the show after her third attempt auditioning.

Kahmora Hall

The drag sister of season 12 winner Jaida Essence Hall, Kahmora Hall oozes glamour and elegance.

‘I don’t really consider myself a look queen. To me I’m just more of a glamour queen,’ Kahmora said.

‘I just really like sparkly things, like sometimes to the point where it’s really gaudy and campy.’

Kandy Muse

Describing herself as ‘the Dominican Doll from New York City’, Kandy Muse is a member of ‘Dollhaus’, which she founded alongside Dahlia Sin and Janelle No.5, having previously been a part of the now-dissolved House of Aja.

‘Aja is my drag mother who appeared on season nine and All Stars season three, and Dahlia Sin is my sister who appeared on season 12,’ she said.

‘So it’s weird coming into Drag Race as a Drag Race child.’

LaLa Ri

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, LaLa Ri said she may be perceived as a ‘baby’ of drag, having only been doing it for three years.

‘I’m going to give it to you, I’m going to make you watch me – like LaLa Ri makes you watch her,’ she pledged.

The drag queen added that she’s a ‘leotard girl’ and a ‘showgirl’, suggesting that we can expect some magnificent dance moves from her on the catwalk.

Olivia Lux

Olivia Lux, who lives in Brooklyn, New York, took inspiration for her drag name from Olivia Pope, the lead character in Scandal, and the Latin word for light.

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race is such a big platform,’ the drag queen said.

‘I felt like it was such a huge accomplishment.’

Rosé

Living in New York, Rosé explained that when she started doing drag, it became a ‘pink explosion’ because she wasn’t able to wear it when she was a young boy.

‘I am the quintessential New York showgirl,’ Rosé said, adding that she considers herself a ‘comedy queen’.

The drag queen added that she takes inspiration from performers including Beyoncé, Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand.

Symone

Symone, who lives in Los Angeles, explained that she settled on her drag name after going through several different options.

‘She’s a fashion girl, she puts herself together very well. I can put on many different things from many different eras and put a little bit of Symone into it,’ she said.

The drag queen has been performing since she was 18 years old.

Tamisha Iman

‘I think people are going to be surprised that an old broom like myself can still sweep,’ Tamisha Iman said.

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Tamisha Iman is the drag mother of fellow contestant LaLa Ri.

‘I have a loving spirit. But if you challenge me in my craft, you would know you’ve made a mistake,’ the drag queen warned.

Tina Burner

From New York City, Tina Burner takes her name from Tina Turner, explaining that the musical icon ‘rose from the ashes’ like a ‘phoenix’, hence her drag name.

‘In my drag career, I was raised on respect and putting the work in, and then you have these new girls coming up doing drag for a day and all of a sudden they’re a star,’ she said.

‘I’m here to tell them: “No baby. Sit down.”’

Utica Queen

As is implied by her name, Utica Queen is from the city of Utica in Minnesota.

Utica Queen added that she loves ‘colours’ and being ‘ethereal’.

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13 premieres on January 1 at 8pm ET/PT on VH1. A UK release date has not yet been confirmed.
