RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series 3: Queens ranked after zany episode 5 Draglexa acting challenge

Warning: spoilers ahead for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series 3 episode 5.

Unbelievably, we’re already down to eight queens on series 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK – where has the time gone?!

In episode 5 of the BBC Three competition, the queens were tasked with creating adverts in teams for Draglexa, a drag version of the virtual assistant.

Despite their best efforts, neither team managed to impress RuPaul or fellow judges Michelle Visage, Alan Carr and Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock with their infomercials, leading to a brutal warning from Ru urging the queens stop playing it self… or else.

On the runway, the queens were tasked with showcasing their best Spenny Henny looks, with some of the stars looking like a million dollars and others donning high street-worthy ensembles.

So who shone like a diamond and who failed to make a mark? Here’s our ranking for the queens of series three after episode five.

River Medway

River was an absolute triumph this week (Picture: BBC/World of Wonder/Ray Burmiston)

For River, the only criticism the judges could really muster regarding her performance in the Draglexa challenge was that they didn’t see enough of her.

In the few moments she had on screen at the very end of the commercial – having delivered the voiceover throughout – she stole the spotlight, looking as though she’d stepped right out of the 80s with her oversized jacket and endearing charm.

As for her runway, after being unfairly told last week that her Ginger Spice look didn’t pack enough punch, tonight, River went above and beyond, oozing with glamour in a red and gold ensemble inspired by her heritage and prompting gasps from Alan and Leigh-Anne.

We’re loving River’s evolution and while Ru refused to announce anyone as the winner of the week, in our eyes, she nabbed the number one spot.

Kitty Scott-Claus

Kitty has been patiently waiting for her moment to shine, and that she did this week.

Sure, the toilet and poo jokes in the commercial might have not been to everyone’s taste (luckily Leigh-Anne was a fan), but Kitty still stood out, giving the challenge her all while listening carefully to Michelle’s instructions on set.

On the runway, the queen delivered her most beautiful look so far, stepping onto the stage in an ensemble that appeared to take inspiration from Britney’s Toxic music video.

Keeping on rising to the top Kitty!

Ella Vaday

My Celebrity Life –
Ella has been extremely consistent (Picture: BBC/World of Wonder/Ray Burmiston)

Ella is definitely one of the most consistent queens in the cast, demonstrating that she is ever the professional no matter what challenge is thrown at her.

While at times she may seem as though she’s perhaps too polished, we can’t discredit Ella at all for her talent or dedication, both of which she has in abundance.

On the runway, Ella showcased her signature glam, looking like a perfect homage to the golden years of old school Hollywood.

While Michelle thought her wig looked too old fashioned, Ella’s big reveal of a waterfall of crystals on the back of her outfit was absolutely exquisite, proving that she does have unexpected surprises up her sleeve.

Choriza May

My Celebrity Life –
Choriza never fails to entertain (Picture: BBC/World of Wonder/Ray Burmiston)

Choriza is just as entertaining on the runway and in challenges as she is behind the scenes, never letting any of the other queens trouble her as she continues to win the hearts of the nation.

While receiving her critiques from the judges, Alan made the point that Choriza never fails to make him laugh, even if he can’t always understand why – and the queen’s effortless humour has conquered once again.

Unfortunately, Choriza’s runway look didn’t quite hit the mark this week, as her Spenny Henny look failed to look as expensive as that of her counterparts.

Nonetheless, we simply can’t imagine Drag Race UK without Choriza, whose zippy one-liners often end up being some of the highlights of each episode.

Charity Kase

My Celebrity Life –
Do you feel that Charity is misunderstood? (Picture: BBC/World of Wonder/Ray Burmiston)

Charity’s had a tough time in the competition, and often through no fault of her own.

There’s no denying Charity’s artistry, with the queen delivering yet another showstopper on the runway, but as has been the case with eccentric Drag Race stars in the past, it feels as though Charity is frequently being misunderstood by the judges.

In the acting challenge, while she could have been perceived as taking control of the advert, no one else in her group stepped up to the mark, including Krystal, who was the team captain.

So while the commercial might not have been at all well-received by the judges, Charity showed that she’s willing to put her neck on the line, a move that we feel should have prevented her from placing in the bottom two.

Scarlett Harlett

My Celebrity Life –

Just like all the other queens, Scarlett did what she could in her Draglexa advert, ensuring her team had a clear plan, was organised and she was able to show off her comedic personality.

Her leadership skills are to be applauded and her runway look was undeniably elegant, albeit let down by her decision to do away with her cane right at the start of her walk.

While it wasn’t nice at the start of the episode when Charity decided not to partner up with Krystal in the mini challenge, rather than let it go, she let it fester in her mind and impact her chat with the other queens in the Werk Room later on during Untucked.

We really felt for Scarlett when she spoke about feeling like an outsider, but she also needs to make sure she has her head in the game and doesn’t take out any feelings of anger she may have on anyone else.

Vanity Milan

My Celebrity Life –
It’s time for Vanity to break out of her shell (Picture: BBC/World of Wonder/Ray Burmiston)

Tonight on the runway, Ru made a point of highlighting how Vanity can sometimes come across as shy on stage, which she acknowledged to be true.

Every week, Vanity seems to be coming out of her shell bit by bit in front of the judges – but as Ru warned her, she needs to speed things up.

Her fashionable turn on the runway and make-up skills have definitely elevated since the start of the competition, showing that Vanity is listening to the judges and taking their feedback on board.

We just need to see the absolutely fabulous Vanity Milan in all her glory on the stage so the judges can appreciate how wonderful she is.

Krystal Versace

My Celebrity Life –
Krystal played it a bit too safe this week (Picture: BBC/World of Wonder/Ray Burmiston)

The last thing any queen wants – especially after Ru’s furious H&M rant in series two of Drag Race UK – is for their runway look to be compared to the high street.

So when Michelle compared Krystal’s bodysuit to clubwear from Pretty Little Thing, it was like a knife to the heart.

Krystal performed well in the challenge and delivered beauty on stage, but we’re seeing a lot of the same when we know she’s more than capable of pushing the envelope further – plus, she failed to step up as the leader of her group.

While some of the other queens are showing their progression throughout the competition, it feels as though Krystal fell behind slightly this week by playing it safe.

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK returns next week at 7pm on BBC Three.
