Ruth Jones has shut down the chance of another Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special – and she’s happy keeping it that way.
Speaking to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on Friday’s This Morning Ruth, who co-wrote and starred in the comedy with James Corden, revealed there are no plans in the works to many any more.
‘We waited so long, it was spectacular, 18 million people or more watched it and you did leave us hanging, you know Nessa proposed to Smithy,’ host Ruth quizzed.
‘There’s got to be another one coming surely, is there a series coming, will it be another special? Please tell me, give me something.’
‘Well isn’t it great that it gets repeated so much I think that’s fantastic,’ the actress replied.
‘A lot of people say to me that they find things in it that they didn’t see before. I think sometimes I see things that I didn’t see before.
‘There aren’t any plans to write anything, James is in America, I am in Wales.
‘It’s not at the moment – I am sorry not to be able to give you any good news.’
The hour-long Gavin and Stacey special aired on Christmas Day last year, and ended when Nessa (Ruth) proposed to Smithy (James).
Speaking about the cliffhanger ending, Ruth went on to explain that it could be a good thing if we never know Smithy’s answer.
‘I do think the Christmas special, the joy of our last special is that it ended in such a way that if we never go back to Barry, we will always wonder what happened,’ Ruth added.
But Ruth, we need to know if Smithy said yes…
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
