Rylan Clark claimed that the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest assisted him in coming to terms with his divorce.
The former It Takes Two host, 34, met his ex-husband Dan Neal eight years ago and married in an intimate ceremony in 2015 in front of close friends and family.
The It Takes Two host revealed their separation in a message on Instagram in July 2021, stating they were ‘prioritising our mental health.’
As the former couple’s marriage ended, the TV personality had a nervous breakdown and spent four months in the hospital, pulling her out of the spotlight.
Rylan will be in Liverpool delivering commentary for the Eurovision semi-finals on BBC1 and the finals on BBC Radio 2 alongside DJ Scott Mills, and the singer said that the approaching celebrations come at an appropriate moment.
‘Last year I needed to get away from the UK and the Eurovision bubble was perfect for that,’ he said.
He added to the Daily Star: ‘It was what I needed on a personal level. Being there was a full circle moment for me. It was like, “I’m back, I’m ready to go.”‘
Speaking of the worldwide tournament, Rylan recently stated that he is envious of fans who are attending for the first time.
‘When you have your first Eurovision – mine was Lisbon – being a fan and actually being able to go to Eurovision and that feeling the second you land at that airport, wherever it is, the whole city is taken over by Eurovision, and for that one week you are all in that bubble. There is nothing like it,’ he said.
‘For that one week you just forget your troubles and it’s all about the contest, and everyone is having a lovely time. It doesn’t matter who you are.’
The Eurovision final will be live-streamed from the Liverpool M&S Bank Arena this year. Liverpool won the competition to host the programme when the United Kingdom, which finished second last year, offered to host it because the winners, Ukraine, were unable to do so due to the war.
The Eurovision Song Contest final airs on Saturday, May 13 on BBC One.
