S Club have broken their silence on Hannah Spearritt’s comeback, after she said she will not be joining the tour following the devastating loss of bandmate Paul Cattermole.
Cattermole died on April 6 at the age of 46 after being discovered at his home in Dorset, his family announced in a statement.
Heartbroken fans and his bandmates tweeted heartfelt condolences, saying they were ‘fortunate to have had him in our lives.’
Shortly after rumours over whether the tour would continue, the Bring It All Back singers posted a sad update saying that five of them will still be performing this year, despite Hannah’s absence.
They have now provided an update on whether Hannah will return.
During an appearance on The One Show on Friday, Jon Lee said: ‘The door is always open.’
He went on: ‘We’ve got lots of stuff coming up after the tour, we’ve got loads of stuff coming up at the end of this year, but there’s loads of projects that we’re working on for next year as well.
‘She could always pop in and join us maybe for something next year.’
The band, who rebranded from S Club 7 earlier this year, will continue with their tour, as Jon, Tina Barrett, Rachel Stevens, Jo O’Meara and Bradley McIntosh will take to the stage.
Their Hannah update comes after the band announced the release of a new tune in tribute of Cattermole.
Speaking about the new tune, Jo said on The One Show: ‘This song was actually written for us 20 years ago and I think it probably wasn’t right for us back then.
‘And it just popped up again and seemed like the absolute perfect song to do.
‘We’ve reworked the lyrics a little bit and made it more of a tribute song.’
She added: ‘The video as well is more of a way of reflecting in a really positive and happy way of what a massive and happy character Paul was.’
The bandmates discuss Cattermole and their experiences in the moving film while looking back at photos from their 25 years together.
Despite his loss, Bradley expressed excitement for the tour and the opportunity to promote their music to a new audience.
He shared: ‘I can’t say too much because it’s a little bit under wraps at the moment – but I can tell you that it’s gonna be epic.
‘Rehearsals are underway. We are coming up with some great ideas and we’re gonna put in a lot of hard work to make this an amazing tour.’
The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One.
