So, you’ve seen all eight episodes of the first series of Shadow and Bone and you came here looking for answers? Let us explain how the first series ended.
Shadow and Bone premiered on Netflix on April 23, with viewers already becoming huge fans of the show.
The programme is a television adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s book of the same name, which is part of the Grisha trilogy.
Set in a world ravaged by war, orphan Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) wields a unique power.
After discovering her unique abilities as the Sun Summoner, She is forced to train as part of an elite group of soldiers known as Grisha.
After spending the majority of the series debating whether Ben Barnes’ character, General Kirigan (aka The Darkling), is good or bad, the final two instalments provide us with the answer.

In the final episode of the series titled No Mourners, we finally see all of our heroes — Alina, Inej Ghafa (Amita Suman), Jesper Fahey (Kit Young), Malyen Oretsev (Archie Renaux) and Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter) — come together on General Kirigan’s skiff.
It’s revealed in this episode that The Crows have been scheming to kidnap Alina.
After capturing her and using Morozova’s Stag to create an amplifier, the Darkling, Alina and the rest of the gang travel into the Shadow Fold. Alina thinks she’s there to destroy the Shadow Fold, but she soon realises that’s not the case.
She ends up chained to the deck of the boat of The Darkling General Kirigan and, now imbued with the antlers from Morozova’s Stag, is forced to show off her powers to ambassadors from Fjerda and Shu Han.

In an unexpected turn of events, the Darkling goes on to demonstrate the full scope of his own abilities.
He then grows the Fold to engulf Novokribirsk, setting the volcra upon those on the other side, and taking revenge on General Zlatan for his treachery.
We then learn of the Darkling’s true intentions, as he tells the ambassadors on board that he had devised a plan to bring the war to a close by inducing all countries to submit to him out of fear.
Now that he has the full power of the Fold, he has the greatest weapon of mass destruction at his disposal.
Even though it seems like The Darkling is triumphant, he has made a major mistake: he didn’t realise that Inej, Jesper, Mal, and Kaz are on the skiff too.
They team up to take down The Darkling. In the chaos, Alina has the chance to get the rest of them out of the Shadow Fold after she removes The Darkling’s connection to her amplifier.
On the boat, all hell breaks loose. After Mal attempts to shoot The Darkling, we learn he can’t be killed by traditional means.
Shortly after, The Darkling is attacked by a Volcra and left for dead inside the Fold, while our six heroes (Alina, Mal, Kaz, Inej, and Jesper are now joined by the Squaller Zoya, played by Sujaya Dasgupta, who’s had a change of heart) escape out the other side.
In the last scene, we see The Darkling walk out of the Shadow Fold with a few scratches.
Shadow and Bone can be streamed on Netflix.
