Shaun Ryder has proven a massive hit on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside fellow Happy Mondays band member Mark ‘Bez’ Berry, especially during lockdown.
On Wednesday’s edition of BBC Breakfast, Shaun was reminded of one occasion from the Channel 4 show when he and Bez watched a snippet of news presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty on the news.
Having spoken to Dan Walker and Louise Minchin about his new album, Shaun then watched the Celebrity Gogglebox clip, in which he and Bez chat about Charlie’s impressive head of hair.
‘Charlie loves his hair, don’t you, Charlie?’ Shaun said, as Charlie and Naga read out the day’s news lines.
Shaun added that one time while watching BBC Breakfast, he ‘actually heard Charlie once on air say that he used to have a mullet’.
In his opinion, even though Charlie doesn’t have a mullet now, he reckons that his current hairstyle is a giveaway for the retro hairstyle he used to have.

‘He’s giving mullet vibes,’ Shaun said as Bez voiced his agreement.
‘He looks like a dude that in the 80s had a mullet,’ the musician added.
When the camera returned to the present-day BBC Breakfast studio, Dan remarked that Charlie does have ‘impressive hair’. That he does indeed!
During a recent appearance on This Morning, Shaun recalled a night out he once had with Bez in LA when Bez unbelievably turned down Julia Roberts.
Shaun explained that they were in the City of Angels when Pretty Woman had ‘only just come out’, having been released in 1990, so the film’s star, Julia, ‘wasn’t the Julia Roberts who everyone knows now’.
According to Shaun, Bez told him that Julia had ‘just asked’ him ‘to go to her place’.
‘And he didn’t have a clue who she was, but she sent her bodyguard over, Evil. Her bodyguard’s name was something like Evil,’ Shaun said.
Although Bez struck up a rapport with the Hollywood star’s bodyguard, Shaun said that he didn’t end up going back to Julia’s place ‘cause he had about four other girls on the go in the club anyway’.
‘So he turned down Julia Roberts?’ a shocked Holly Willoughby asked.
BBC Breakfast airs everyday at 6am on BBC One.
