Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s husband missed the Game Of Thrones hint on The Masked Singer.
The singer was unveiled as Alien in the first episode of the new series, after performing Dua Lipa’s hit Don’t Start Now.
Each character identity is teased before the unmasking, and Alien’s clue hinted at ‘winning an epic battle’.
This turned out to be a reference to her appearance as an extra in Game Of Thrones’ final season.
However many who tuned in believed it related to her chart battle for number one against Victoria Beckham and Dane Bowers 20 years ago.
Sophie, who provided vocals for dance track Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love) by Spiller in 2000, pipped Victoria and Dane’s collaboration Out Of Your Mind to the top spot.
The Murder On The Dancefloor singer says even her husband Richard Jones, who was a Game Of Thrones extra alongside her, didn’t pick up on the hint.
She said: ‘Even my husband thought it was about the Victoria Beckham thing!
‘I totally get it. And you know what, I think the little clue things…it’s funny, because obviously, to me, they all seem to really quite easily relate it back to me, but I guess you always feel that way about things that I would, hopefully, know quite well myself.
‘One friend said they got it because right at the beginning of that VT where I had to say “I-I-I” which related to a song I had done from my first album. It’s obvious when you know right?
‘Probably all the other people in their masks when they had their clues thought, “Oh that’s quite a straightforward one” but actually when you’re totally given hardly anything else to go on, I think it’s quite good fun.’
When asked which of the other mystery contestants she thinks stood out, Sophie had her eye on one in particular.
‘In my pairing I was up against the Robin who I think was pretty flirty and charismatic. I quite like the Robin actually! Good performer.’
The runaway theory is that Robin is JLS member Aston Merrygold due to the clues we were given that appear to relate to his career.
The Masked Singer UK continues Saturday at 7pm on ITV.
