Squid Game star O Yeung-su has said that the Netflix show has changed his life at age of 77 – but he still hasn’t got a manager.

The actor plays Oh Il Nam, aka Player One, in the gripping Korean drama, which has become Netflix’s biggest series ever.

The show has made stars out of its cast, including O Yeung-su, who has enlisted the help of his daughter who help him manage his newfound fame.

As reported by Soompi, the 77-year-old appeared on MBC’s How Do You Play? this week, and shared how his life has changed.

He said: ‘I feel like I’m floating on air. It makes me think, “I need to calm down, organise my thoughts, and hold myself back right now.”

‘So many people have been contacting me, and because I don’t have a manager to help me, it’s hard for me to handle the volume of calls and messages I’ve been receiving. So my daughter has been helping me.

‘Things have changed quite a bit. Even when I go out to a cafe or somewhere like that, I now have to be aware of [how I appear to others]. It’s made me think, “Being famous is tough, too.”’

But despite becoming a celebrity and even an internet meme, O Yeung-su has a simple view on how to attain happiness.

He said: ‘I don’t have any grand ambitions. Big or small, I’ve received a lot of things while living my life. Now, I want to leave behind those things that I’ve received. To put it simply, let’s say you go to a mountain and see a flower. When we’re young, we pick the flower and take it for ourselves.

‘But by the time you reach my age, you leave it there exactly as it is, and you go back to see it again later on. It’s the same with life. Leaving things exactly the way they are. It isn’t easy.’

O Yeung-su played the elderly player on Squid Game who befriends Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) after telling him he has a brain tumour.

While he is at first seen as a burden by the other players, he turns out to be invaluable when it comes to tactics for some of the childhood games they are forced to play.

Players are tasked with winning childhood games like Red Light, Green Light and Ppoggi, where they must carved shapes from a ‘dalgona’, to get closer to winning a huge cash prize.

However, if they fail at the game, they are immediately killed.

While the show hasn’t been confirmed for a second season just yet, the appetite for one is most definitely there, and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has been brainstorming just in case.

He told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘There are some other stories in the series that have not been addressed. For example, the story of the police officer and the story of his brother, The Front Man.

‘I could also go into the story of that recruiter in the suit who plays the game of ddakji with Gi-hun and gives him the card in the first episode.’

Squid Game is available to stream on Netflix.
