An Interior Design Masters candidate ruffled some feathers by displaying a ‘blasphemous’ photo in the area he was remodelling.
Anthony, a former musical theatre performer, was among the new group of wannabe interior designers charged with refurbishing a bedroom in a Norfolk B&B when the BBC programme, hosted by Alan Carr, resumed on Tuesday.
However, judge Michelle Ogundehin was taken aback by the Liverpudlian’s idea to design the room around a large image of a nun smoking a cigarette in a former convent structure.
Scolding Anthony, the magazine editor informed him that he was almost evicted over the black and white poster, which she deemed ‘inappropriate.’
Some viewers on X supported Michelle, with account Trout Pout agreeing: ‘Yikes, bestie.’
Meanwhile, AJ couldn’t resist a little jab, describing the image as ‘a touch B&M.’
Mark also saw the lighter side and joked: ‘Obsessed with poor Anthony getting a b*****king for his “offensive” poster, when only 20 minutes ago him & Alan were cackling over it in the garden.’
Others, however, endorsed Anthony’s design choice, with Kelli exclaiming: ‘I like the “blasphemous” nun!’
Anthony first unveiled the black and white in the garden of the hotel, admitting that it ‘could be a little bit controversial.’
‘But it’s totally my design style: it’s bold, it creates an opinion and it should be good,’ he continued.
However, Alan, 47, approached and gasped upon seeing the image, so he may not have had the reaction he had planned for.
Alan blurted out: ‘What is this? Isn’t that sacrilegious? We’re in a convent!’
Anthony acknowledged the picture was a ‘bit of a risk’ but ultimately stuck to his guns.
I liked the nun poster 🤷🏻♀️ #interiordesignmasters

During the elimination, however, Anthony was scolded by Michelle for failing to grasp the ‘context.’
She fumed: ‘I have to tell you you were one step away from the sofa for the poster that you used on the wardrobe.
‘This was a former covent gifted by nuns to the charity; being appropriate and context is everything.’
Anthony took her criticism in his stride and replied: ‘Sure, I get that. I’m here to learn week on week.’
Despite the reprimand, Anthony advanced to the following round, whereas Sheree was the first designer eliminated.
This year’s Interior Design Masters winner will have the opportunity to launch a product line with La Redoute.
Interior Design Masters continues on Tuesday at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
