Channel 4 is set to take a frank look at sexuality, hook-up culture and consent in My First Threesome – a new documentary which explores the nation’s most popular fantasy.

The new documentary follows a number of people who are looking to fulfil their desires and have their first experience in a threesome, exploring boundaries and the conversations required along the way.

Makers of the programme are hoping it will act as an ‘open and honest platform for discussions exploring sexuality, consent and boundaries’ and ‘create healthy ways to bring fantasy to reality.

It’s already been dubbed the ‘raciest’ show ever broadcast on the channel, but one of its stars is hoping to tackle taboos by speaking candidly about sex on TV.

Kyra, a podcast host who regularly speaks openly about her sexuality with her audience, is one of the people featured on the programme, and she hopes that the documentary will go some way to challenging pre-existing attitudes.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk about her appearance in the documentary, Kyra said: ‘I think speaking very candidly about sex, sexual health, sexual education, sexual exploration, and sexuality in any context is still for some reason, in British culture, something people think you can’t talk about publicly.’

‘People think you need to keep that private – that is should be between you and what happens in the bedroom. For me, personally, I find it ridiculous. Mostly everyone in the world is having sex or thinking of having sex in one form or another. So why are we not openly talking about this?’

‘If someone was considering exploring a threesome, I hope that it will open up the conversation around consent,’ Kyra said.

The film also looks at the impact lockdown has had on dating habits – and Kyra has noticed more people ready to act on their fantasies after 18 months of limitations during the pandemic.

‘A lot more people are really open to sexual exploration. I don’t know whether it’s because for the first couple of months of lockdown, everyone went straight to Pornhub and saw all this stuff and thought, “I’d quite like to try that”,’ she said.

‘It is quite refreshing that as wecome out of the pandemics to some extent, a lot of people are more sexually open. A lot more people I found were also trying out non monogamy, polyamory or even just open relationships, more so than before, which I think is a good thing.’

And what advice would she give to viewers intrigued by what they’d seen in the documentary, and thinking of following suit?

‘Don’t go along with it just to please your partner. You need to be as on board as your partner,’ Kyra said.

‘I think it’s very important to have really upfront and honest discussions as to what people’s limits are, what people’s attractions are, if they’re if someone’s got any triggers,’ she added.

‘I think that’s really, really important. Have that discussion with the three of you, and have everyone’s consent on board.’

My First Threesome airs tonight on Channel 4 at 10pm.
