Almost five months after the second season of The Mandalorian concluded, sci-fi fans have been treated to a brand new action-packed release to mark Star Wars Day on May 4: Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
The animated series premiered on Disney Plus and follows a group of clones who – as their name suggests – are far more wilfully-minded than clones in the Star Wars universe are designed to be.
So what is The Bad Batch about, who is joining Mandalorian star Ming-Na Wen in the cast and how many episodes are there?
What is Star Wars: The Bad Batch about?
Star Wars: The Bad Batch is set straight after the events of the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated series that came to an end in 2020.
The new series follows a group of elite and experimental clones called Clone Force 99, who refer to themselves as The Bad Batch and made their first appearance in the final season of The Clone Wars.

The Bad Batch are faced with a tricky situation at the beginning of their eponymous series, as they must figure out how to survive amid the rise of the evil Galactic Empire following the demise of the Republic.
While it may be useful to have watched The Clone Wars before starting the Bad Batch, it’s not necessarily essential.
Who is in the cast of Star Wars: The Bad Batch?
Considering The Bad Batch are a group of clones, it would make sense for one actor to voice each of the troopers in the unit.
Dee Bradley Baker, who has previously lent his vocal talents to TV shows including Avatar: The Last Airbender, SpongeBob SquarePants and Phineas and Ferb, plays all of the clone troopers in the animation.

These include the entire Bad Batch, which is made up of Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Crosshair and Echo.
He also voices Captain Rex, who previously appeared in The Clone Wars.
Also starring in the programme is Ming-Na Wen, who is reprising her role as mercenary Fennec Shand from live-action Star Wars show The Mandalorian.

Other members of the cast include Stephen Stanton as Imperial officer Grand Moff Tarkin, Andrew Kishino as freedom fighter Saw Gerrera, who was played by Forest Whitaker in the 2016 live-action film Rogue One, and Michelle Ang as Omega, who joins forces with the Bad Batch.
How many episodes of Star Wars: The Bad Batch will there be?
There will be 16 episodes in total for the first season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
The first episode launched on May 4, in fitting tribute to the date referred to around the world as Star Wars Day.
The second episode will become available to watch on Friday May 7, with the subsequent instalments then being released on a weekly basis.
