Happy Days actors Ron Howard and Henry Winkler have pleased fans by reuniting decades after their beloved programme originally aired.
The sitcom debuted in 1974 and broadcast 255 episodes over the next decade, becoming one of the most successful programmes of the 1970s.
The first two seasons concentrated on the experiences and challenges of ‘innocent youth’ Richie Cunningham, played by Ron, in order to ‘honestly convey a melancholy look back at adolescence’.
Although the sitcom was originally somewhat successful, ratings began to decline during the second season, so the series was expanded to include Fonzie, a ‘cool’ biker and high school dropout played by Henry.
Decades later, the two reunited in Australia and exchanged a lovely selfie.
This Thursday, the former co-stars posted a snapshot of their backstage meet-up. Ron, 69, went to witness Henry, 78, at a book tour stop for his new biography, Being Henry: The Fonz…and Beyond.
Sharing the image on X, Henry wrote: ‘LIFE! As the WORLD turns Ron Howard came to my book event in Sydney Australia. SO exciting for everyone!!!’
Then re-sharing the post, Ron explained how he was Down Under working on his next film.
‘Just started post-production in Sydney on my recently wrapped latest movie @edenthemovie starring an amazing cast,’ he began.
‘A great creative experience but that’s for another post. When I touched base with Henry, I discovered he was making an appearance here in support of his excellent best-selling memoir #BeingHenry: The Fonz…and Beyond. Fantastic!
‘We connected backstage, and I watched him give a great speech to a huge crowd. What a blast!’
Unsurprisingly fans of the series loved seeing the stars together again.
‘What an adorable photo,’ Russ Kane commented.
‘The joy in this picture is outta sight,’ Jo shared.
‘The happiest of days,’ Tara Dublin added.
Meanwhile Felicia wrote it ‘warms my heart to know that you two are still friends.’
Before starring on Happy Days Ron was a child star on The Andy Griffith Show and in The Music Man.
Meanwhile, Henry, who was completely unknown at the time and had only performed on stage, landed his career-defining part only a few weeks after relocating to Los Angeles.
Although Ron quit Happy Days after the seventh season to pursue directing, the two remained close friends.
When questioned on the Emmys red carpet in 2002, Henry described Ron as ‘like his brother’.‘He has great wisdom. He has great warmth. He has great ability. And I have loved him from the minute that I met him.’
Happy Days is available to stream on Apple TV Plus and Amazon Prime Video.
