Netflix’s new adaptation of Harlan Coben’s thriller Stay Close has had everyone gripped but viewers have been flummoxed by a glaring plot hole.
The hit series stars Cush Jumbo, Richard Armitage, and James Nesbitt and follows three people living separate lives who are somehow linked by past crimes and sinister drama.
Viewers were hooked on Megan’s story in particular after a familiar face from her secret past comes back to haunt her. As the series progresses we learn that Megan, who was known as Cassie, left her old life as a strip club dancer and is now a suburban mum.
However, fans weren’t that surprised with the past haunting Megan as she’s still living in the same area she did before.
One person wrote: ‘Not being funny but Megan (Cassie) in #stayclose keeps wondering how they found her? You live down the road from everyone that’s how. I’m surprised half of them haven’t bumped into you in Tesco.’
While another said: ‘Ok but the main plot hole in Stay Close is that Cassie “ran away” to start a new life as Megan but she’s literally living up the road… sure.’
However, creators of the mystery series recently cleared up some of this confusion and explained the location is not as close as it’s played out on screen.
The official account tweeted a series of images along with the caption: ‘Getting questions about the locations used in #StayClose… Vipers, for example, is in fictional Livingstone while Megan’s family is an hour+ away (ergo crossing that bridge) in Ridgewood. Thanks for watching.
In the books the location was set in Atlantic City in the USA, however, the TV adaptation was filmed in Manchester and locations across the northwest of England.
Armitage, who plays Ray Levine teased fans on what they can expect from the season finale.
Speaking to Virgin Radio’s Chris Evans Breakfast Show, he said: ‘There’s a massive twist at the end which will kind of blow your mind.’
