A Stranger Things fan claims to have sussed out how Jim Hopper (David Harbour) managed to escape the Upside Down in season three.
Hopper was seemingly killed off in the last series of the Netflix sci-fi hit, but is in fact stuck in Kamchatka, Russia.
One viewer shared their idea on Reddit after watching the lastest episodes, in which they spotted something interesting.
User tarannn25 posted a picture of a scene from the season three finale when Hopper ‘dies’ during his effort to close the gate to the Upside Down.
They pointed out how he might have been able to escape death with one detail.
The Reddit user wrote: ‘This scene from the last episode of season 3 clearly shows a ladder to climb down the platform,. and that’s how I think hopper escaped successfully from there.’
Just below the light beam in the image is a ladder leading to the floor.
It is possible Jim clambered to freedom, but season four will no doubt clear things up.
Fans can also look forward to finding out some more about Hopper’s background.
Actor David shared with Comicbook.com: ‘He’s trapped and he’s isolated and we get to see an entirely another colour of him that has been hinted at.
‘This season is my favourite because he really is going to show you some new colours and what he’s really made up of.
‘You really do get to see a lot of his backstory of who he was as a warrior in a sense and sort of the mistakes he made in the past come back to visit him.’
Filming on season four has resumed after the coronavirus pandemic brought things to a halt in March.
Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
