Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy has revealed that while the pandemic massively pushed back filming, the Netflix show is ‘better than ever’ in season four as a result of the pandemic.

The show was initially thought to be returning for season four in early 2021, but with production shutting down in March this year, fans will probably have to wait until late next year until Stranger Things returns.

Speaking to Collider, Levy said that the pandemic allowed more time for writers and creators Matt and Ross Duffer to rewrite the script and get the screenplay as good as it can possibly be.

Levy said: ‘I’ll just say the pandemic definitely massively delayed shooting and therefore the launch of our current Season 4, date still TBD.

‘But it impacted very positively by allowing the Duffer brothers, for the first time ever, to write the entire season before we shoot it and to have time to rewrite in a way that they rarely had before so the quality of these screenplays are exceptional, maybe better than ever.’

So while TV fans are worrying about the impact lockdown is going to have on their favourite telly, it could actually be helping to make some of the biggest series even better.

While the first season of the Netflix sci-fi drama focused on the disappearance of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), the later seasons have seen show creators expand the Stranger Things universe and introduce new threats.

Millie Bobby Brown is set to reprise her role as Eleven along with Finn Wolfhard as Mike and David Harbour as Jim Hopper in the upcoming run.

Season three of the show arrived on the streaming service in July 2018.

Stranger Things season four is expected to return to Netflix in 2021.
