Wait… could it be? (Picture: Netflix)

Stranger Things dropped the first look snaps ahead of Netflix’s highly-anticipated season 4 release, and in one of the pictures, fans believe Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Jim Hopper (David Harbour) will reunite.

Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Will (Noah Schnapp) have left Hawkins, Indiana, and will be navigating their way through high school in the upcoming chapter.

But they will face an impending battle once more alongside Mike, (Finn Wolfhard) Max (Sadie Sink), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo).

The season three cliffhanger saw Jim being seemingly killed after sacrificing himself so Joyce could close the gate between the Upside Down and the real world.

However, viewers were ecstatic to see something romantic brewing between the pair, and now we know that Jim is alive, everyone is rooting for the couple to get together. Finally!

One fan enthusiastically shared a picture of the Black Widow actor in character intensely staring at Joyce, and tweeted: ‘THEY’RE LOOKING AT EACH OTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’

‘In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.’

The supernatural hit will be released in two instalments, the first being dropped on May 27.

Writers Matt and Ross Duffer hailed the series as the most ‘challenging’ yet ‘rewarding.’

In an open letter to fans, they wrote: ‘With nine scripts, over 800 pages and almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one.

‘Everyone involved is incredibly proud of the results, and we can’t wait to share it with you.’
