Her first performance – a jive to Gold Dust by DJ Fresh – earned her a score of 34, the highest week-one score for 16 years, and she’s performed as strongly in the weeks since.
Currently, she is tied with Johannes and John on the overall leader board, with both couples earning 100 points out of the possible 120 since the competition started.
Strictly fans will no doubt expect to see the star sail through the next few weeks of the competition alongside pro dance partner Kai Widdrington – and she may even be a contender for the final.
If you’re not a big fan of reality TV (beyond Strictly), this might be the first you’ve seen of AJ. But she’s been on telly screens for some time now.
So, who is she, what shows has she presented and is she dating anyone?
Here’s what you need to know.
Who is AJ Odudu?
AJ Odudu, 33 years old, – born Onatejiro Odudu – is a TV presenter originally from Blackburn, Lancashire.
2013 was the year she found fame, appearing as a host on Big Brother’s Bit on the Side, alongside Rylan Clark and Emma Willis.
She went on to host Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit on the Psych, as well as presenting backstage for The Voice UK and The Voice Kids.
From Extra slice to Richard Osman’s House of Games and the celebrity version of The Chase, AJ has made countless TV appearances.
One notable appearance was a two-hour special return of The Big Breakfast, alongside comedian Mo Gilligan.
And she also reached the final of Channel 4’s toughest reality show, Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.
In 2021, fans will recognise her as the host Married At First Sight UK: Afters, which airs after the main programme.
In addition to her TV work, AJ is a contributing editor at women’s magazine Grazia.
Does AJ Odudu have a partner?
It’s thought that the TV host is not currently dating anyone.
Indeed, the last time Odudu spoke on record about her love life, she told the Daily Mail in November 2020 that she was single, revealing that 2020 was ‘not the year’ for her love life.
She did open up about what she looks for in a partner, though.
Odudu explained that she is very much a ‘personality girl’ telling the publication: ‘I like charismatic guys who can take the mickey out of themselves but when it comes to work, they are focused and they know what they want in themselves and in a partner.’
Some fans have been speculating as to whether she and her Strictly partner, Kai Widdrington were taking things off the dancefloor after microphones picked up an ‘I love you’ comment last week.
On It Takes Two, the pair laughed off the rumours.
Kai said: ‘I think that was all down to just the tough, tough week that we had and the fact that we got to the end of the performance and it was flawless and you smashed it, and you did all the lifts brilliant, did all the technique perfect.’
AJ chimed in: ‘We were both just relieved, you were just gripping onto my neck!’ as she momentarily held onto his hand.
What’s AJ Odudu’s Instagram?
AJ’s Instagram handle is @ajodudu, where she shares snippets from her life and backstage Strictly insight with over 134,000 followers.
We don’t know too much about AJ’s life away from the cameras, but we do know she’s been renovating a flat.
She also has a special Instagram dedicated to her passion project – renovating a home, @homewithaj.
On this separate Instagram account, over 12,000 followers watch as AJ does up her three-bed Victorian flat.
What has AJ said about Strictly?
In a big reveal with BBC One’s The One Show, AJ confessed that she hadn’t told her mum – a huge Strictly fan – that she’d be selected for the series.
She joked: ‘She’s gonna be watching [this] right now, she’s gonna be beside herself.
‘I can’t even tell you how much we love the show. This is a dream come true.
‘I’ve got seven siblings, you know how parents say they don’t have a favourite child, this is favourite child status right here.’
Strictly Come Dancing 2021 continues tonight on BBC One at 7:10pm.
