The Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special has seen BBC newsreader Moira Stuart capture the heart of the nation once again.
Along with her dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec who was dressed as an elf, Moira performed a sizzling salsa as Mrs Claus – and even picked up a third partner in the form of Father Christmas.
Despite having been a staple of British television for decades, Strictly viewers could not believe Moira’s age as she took to the stage for a jig to Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.
While Moira was not exactly doing triple backflips, she was still well able to move and keep up with professional dancer Aljaz, and dozens took to Twitter to voice their shock at learning she is 72 years old.
‘Moira Stuart is 72?’ one incredulous person asked. ‘Well I never!’
‘If I look half as good as Moira at 72 I will be a very happy girl!,’ another admitted.
One person who has been a fan of the broadcaster since childhood said: ‘Moira Stuart at 72 was fabulous,’ adding it was obvious that she ‘loved every minute’.
‘Moira still grooving at 72,’ another impressed fan wrote. ‘Well done. Great fun!’
The judges were just as impressed with the dance, with Moira and Aljaz gathering highly respectable 33 points from Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke.
Many others were just delighted to see the broadcasting legend on Strictly in the first place, with more than one person calling her a ‘national treasure’.
After watching Moira dominate the stage in the glittering red suit and white cuffs, one fan wrote Moira had ‘some serious Mama Claus moves’, while another said she was ‘an actual angel’.
The BBC icon was up against other celebrities for the Christmas special, including popstar Anne-Marie, Bake Off star Mel Giedroyc, broadcaster Adrian Chiles, First Dates maître d’ Fred Sirieix and The Repair Shop star Jay Blades.
However, despite her fantastic display, Moira and Aljaz lost out on the top spot to Anne-Marie and partner Graziano Di Prima.
The 30-year-old singer and her professional dance partner were declared the winners after their ‘absolutely superb’ routine.
