Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli will not be returning for the grand finale of this year’s show due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

Although the judge has been absent from the current series to honour his commitment to filming Dancing With The Stars in the United States, bosses had hoped he’d be able to appear for the awarding of the glitterball.

However, producers are said to have since decided Burno travelling from Los Angeles would not be deemed essential travel, so he will now not take part.

‘Bruno has been umming and ahhing about this for weeks,’ an insider said.

They continued to The Sun: ‘But him and the BBC have decided that it’s nowhere near essential for him to fly halfway around the world for a few hours work so they’ll make do without him.’

Despite not being able to make an appearance in person, it’s believed Bruno will continue to be part of the show in the same way he has been for the rest of the series.

Due to Bruno’s absence, there have only been three Strictly judges during the live shows this series – Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood.

As a result, the contestants are scored out of 30 instead of 40.

Professional dancer Anton Du Beke temporarily stepped in for Motsi earlier this month as she had to make a trip to Germany and was then forced to isolate for 14 days.

Bruno only appears via video link on the Sunday night results show to give his verdict.

It’s the first time in Strictly’s 16-year history that he’s been not been sat behind the judging panel.

A Strictly rep declined to comment when approached by Metro.co.uk.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at on BBC One.
