Ahead of the big finale, Made in Chelsea star Jamie and his dance partner discussed his journey throughout the series, having pulled out of last year’s show after sustaining a serious injury while filming the launch episode.
Looking back on the several dance-offs they have taken part in, Karen, 38, said she has ‘never seen anybody bounce back with such positivity and such resilience’ in comparison to Jamie, 32.
After stating that it was ‘amazing’ Jamie was given a second opportunity to compete, Karen paid homage to the close friendship they have forged.
‘The fact that I’ve made a friend, and I’ve made a machine now because he’s got awesome abs,’ she said.
Jamie noted that taking part in Strictly has been ‘one of the toughest things I’ve probably done in terms of physical and mental toughness’.
While training has been ‘tough’ this week, given the couples have to perform three routines each, the reality TV star added that it has been ‘incredible’.
‘It’s tough, but it’s incredible. Training is what it has to be, just three times as hard because we’ve got three dances,’ he said.
For their Showdance routine, which will be set to a cover of Sir Elton John’s I’m Still Standing, Jamie will have to take on the challenge of performing lifts with Karen.
While it is a daunting prospect, it sounds like the excitable ball of energy is up for the challenge.
Jamie expressed how much he admires the professional dancers on Strictly, especially Karen.
‘This is why these guys are incredible. I complain a little bit. I say, “Ah, I’m a bit tired.” She’s done it 30 years,’ he stated.
‘Karen’s also got me lifting her in different places and I’ve never lifted anyone. So I have to lift Karen, and sometimes I drop her, it’s just not good, it’s really bad.’
During their Charleston earlier in the series, Jamie left viewers in fits of giggles when he ‘dropped’ Karen on the floor.
He will likely try his best not to repeat his gaffe this evening, when he and Karen perform their Charleston again to Zero to Hero from the Disney film Hercules.
They will also reprise their Couple’s Choice routine to Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) by C+C Music Factory.
The Strictly Come Dancing final airs at 6pm on tonight on BBC One.
