MP Jacqui Smith and Anton Du Beke have been declared the firm favourites to be first eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing 2020.

The celebrities took to the dancefloor for the first time on Saturday night, and there were some shocks and surprises along the way in terms of skill.

But Metro.co.uk readers have cast their votes, and reckon that Jacqui is the landslide favourite to be sent home after next week’s elimination.

In fact, 45% of people who gave their votes said she and Anton – who performed a foxtrot to Monty Python’s Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life – will be shown the door.

Jamie Laing and Bill Bailey came in joint second-place for the dance-off, earning 10% of the vote each.

Meanwhile, in terms of favourites, it’s surprisingly Max George and Dianne Buswell who appear the safest, only earning 1% of the 600+ votes cast.

This comes despite not getting to the top of the leaderboard set by the judges on Saturday night’s live show.

In the judges’ rankings, HRVY turned out an amazing performance of a jive with Janette Manrara, earning him the highest spot on the leaderboard after what Motsi Mabuse declared ‘the best opening dance in Strictly history’.

Maisie Smith, who has been the bookies’ fave since she was announced, came in second with her samba.

Thankfully for Jacqui, she still has another week to win around voters, and will perform again next week before the first dance-off and elimination takes place.

As is tradition, everyone is safe in the first week of the show, which didn’t change despite the tweaks in the series format to accommodate social-distancing rules.

There will sadly be no Halloween special this year, with next week being your typical Strictly show.

However, movie week is still a go, and will take place the week afterwards.

Will she be able to keep dancing until then?

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7.25pm on BBC One.
