Strictly Come Dancing 2020: Jamie Laing praises ‘nation’s champion’ after losing out to Bill Bailey in final

Jamie Laing has praised the ‘nation’s champion’ after he lost out to Bill Bailey in the Strictly Come Dancing finale.

In scenes which aired last night, Bill and his dance partner Oti Mabuse were crowned the winners, beating Jamie, EastEnders star Maisie Smith and singer HRVY in the 2020 final.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Jamie shared a snap of Bill backstage with a bottle of bubbly in his hand as he celebrated his victory.

‘Mine and the nations champion!! What a hero!! I adore you @billbaileyofficial,’ the Made in Chelsea star penned.

Jamie’s followers were also quick to congratulate both him and Bill for getting as far as they did in the competition.

‘You were amazing Jamie!!! & well done Bill,’ one commented.

Another praised: ‘You are all absolute heroes for lifting the spirits of the nation these past few weeks. Have absolutely LOVED watching your journey & your Hercules Charleston will not be forgotten, EVER!! Pure joy!!! Bill is however an absolute legend!!’

While one added: ‘Best final in a long time. Congratulations.’

Bill and Oti, who won the infamous Strictly Glitterball trophy also made show history last night.

It’s the first time that a professional has won consecutive titles, and Bill became the oldest ever winner at 55 years old.

Speaking with their new trophy firmly in their hand, Bill and Oti shared an emotional video to Twitter.

‘We cannot express in words what this means to us both,’ Bill said. ‘So to everyone that voted for us, everyone that supported us, any message of support that we received, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

‘It means the world to us both.’

‘And thank you to everyone who supported the show,’ Oti added. ‘It means the world to us.

‘This show is everything to us and it gave us hope, and you guys watching and supporting and voting for everyone means a lot. Thank you so much!’
