While HRVY and Janette have been frontrunners throughout the series, making history with the earliest ever perfect score for their couple’s choice routine, the singer was on the verge of having to pull out at the very start.
In early October, it was confirmed that the 21-year-old musician had tested positive for Covid-19. Fortunately, he was cleared to compete a week later.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other media outlets ahead of the final, Janette admitted she was worried about HRVY’s place in the competition before they began training.
‘I didn’t know if you were going to do it, remember?’ she recollected, while sitting next to her dance partner. ‘There was a scare at the beginning.’
Janette, 37, said that one of her highlights of the series was ‘the day that I met HRVY’ after the scare.
‘So when I walked through the doors at Wembley Arena… I don’t know, we just connected straight away from moment one,’ the dancer stated.
‘He literally picked me off my feet, hugged me and spun me around. And I was like, “Oh he can lift, great!”’
The pair reminisced about some more of their top moments on the show, including their early clean sweep of 10s and receiving a nine for their Jive in week one.
Janette and HRVY are hoping they can improve on their Jive score tonight, when they reprise the choreography for one of their three dances.
They will also perform their A Chorus Line-themed American Smooth for a second time, in addition to performing a showdance to Brittany Murphy’s version of Boogie Wonderland.
Earlier today, Janette’s husband and fellow Strictly professional Aljaz Škorjanec shared a message of support on Instagram for her and HRVY, writing: ‘I am beyond proud of u both!’
Aljaz, 30, signed off his message by quoting the late Sir Bruce Forsyth, stating: ‘Whatever happens tonight as Brucie would say.. YOU ARE MY FAVOURITE.’
The Strictly Come Dancing final airs tonight at 6pm on BBC One.
