Strictly Come Dancing star Maisie Smith revealed that she broke down in tears off camera after she was put in the bottom two against Max George.

After the dance-off, the judges made their decision, and in the end, they gave Max and his dance partner Dianne Buswell the boot.

Speaking about that moment, Maisie explained that as soon as she realised that the judges had saved her, she ‘burst into tears’.

‘Some people have had it in their heads that because I’m a good dancer that I would be safe every week. But that’s so not the case,’ she began.

‘It was so, so scary. It wasn’t a nice feeling at all. You didn’t see it on camera, but as soon as I was saved, I just burst into tears. It knocked my confidence. I’ve been trying so hard – we all have. But I’ve had to keep reminding myself not to take it so personally.’

‘It happened to Jamie Laing in the first week, and he did so well after that. But honestly, when I heard my name, it was the scariest feeling. I’ve never been in such a scary situation,’ she added to OK!.

During last night’s elimination, Maisie and her dance partner Gorka Marquez were once again put in the bottom two, against Caroline Quentin and Johannes Radebe.

However, in the end, the judges voted to save Maisie, giving her another chance in the competition.

Both Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke both voted to save Maisie and Gorka.

Following their performance in the dance-off, Anton said: ‘I thought both couples danced beautifully. I think they are beautiful couples who danced fabulous routines.

‘One couple was a bit cleaner than the other couple, there was a couple of mistakes in there. So the couple I would like to save are Maisie and Gorka.’

Giving his thoughts, Craig added: ‘I absolutely love both couples, but for me one couple was outstanding and danced as though their lives depended on it and that couple I would like to save, Maisie and Gorka.’

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7.15pm on BBC One.
