Strictly Come Dancing 2020 contestant Max George has been getting tips from his The Wanted band mate Jay McGuiness, who won the contest back in 2015.

The actor and Wanted singer opened up about his trepidations ahead of the first live show in the series, set to air on Saturday.

Max told the Radio Times Jay was happy to offer him some advice ahead of his debut on the dancefloor.

‘[Jay] said he’s starting to feel like Yoda,’ Max mused.

‘A wise old Jedi giving me tips. I’d never compare myself to him, though. He’s always been an amazing dancer.

‘But I’ll be doing the best I can for Dianne [Buswell].’

Max was paired with Dianne during Saturday night’s episode. The scarlet-haired Aussie tweeted post-reveal that she ‘cannot wait’ to dance with the former boy band star.

The 2018 finalist, who is dating her celebrity partner Joe Sugg, is already full of choreography ideas for the new series, which she acknowledged has some unique challenges thanks to Covid-19.

She said: ‘Obviously, props are going to be a lot harder to get on and off the floor in a safe way, so there will be fewer.

‘But we have a new lighting system that can create cool illusions.

‘It’s opened up new doors and it’s going to be exciting.’

Dianne previously stated she has full confidence in the BBC’s plan to keep cast and crew of the hit show safe during filming.

‘I feel like we’ve got so much in place and we’re all just really wanting to do the show so we’re all really following guidelines and keeping ourselves and our partners and the people we’re working around safe and they’re doing just the same,’ she declared in a Metro.co.uk exclusive.

‘It’s all done so safely that I feel at ease doing the show. I’m just excited we do get to do it and making peoples Saturday nights a lot happier.’
