Strictly Come Dancing 2020: Motsi Mabuse fiercely defends Shirley Ballas after Ranvir Singh backlash

Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse has shared a message of support for Shirley Ballas and Giovanni Pernice following a backlash from fans.

Viewers were left fuming after Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer were saved over Ranvir Singh on Sunday’s show, with Shirley having the decisive vote.

The judging panel initially split on who to keep in the competition. Craig Revel Horwood opted to save Jamie and Karen, while Motsi Mabuse saved Ranvir and Giovanni.

Shirley however chose to send home Ranvir, and the decision didn’t go down well with some fans.

Now, Motsi has shared a message of support for Shirley, with the pair holding hands together backstage.

‘Attacking her is attacking me!!!’ she wrote.

‘Everyone that is part of my community knows that we support, we love and we spread love!!! SUPPORT OTHER WOMEN. PERIOD.’

It was an incredibly tough decision for Shirley to make on Sunday, with the emotional judge saying: ‘This is very difficult because I’ve grown to love both couples. I’m getting quite emotional now.

‘Musicality, determination, conviction from both teams, they just gave their all.’

Ranvir has since opened up about her ‘beautiful’ exit from the show, saying that the outpouring of support has been a joyful thing to experience.

After looking at their highlights reel on the programme, an emotional Ranvir said: ‘There’s some really beautiful moments in there and so much more than I ever expected and I’m sad not to be in the Final.

‘But at the same time, I am glad that we’ve moved people to tears and the Argentine tango was an amazing moment. We’ve had some really fantastic memorable moments and I know I couldn’t have got this far without you.’

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6pm on BBC One.
