Strictly Come Dancing 2020: Who is Jamie Laing’s girlfriend Sophie Habboo and what is his connection to McVitie’s?

During this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing, Jamie Laing has proven a hit among viewers with his professional dance partner Karen Hauer, topping the leaderboard last month with an epic street dance routine.

Jamie is best-known as one of the stars of reality TV show Made In Chelsea, which follows the friendships, relationships and heartbreaks of a group of well-off young people who mingle predominantly in west London.

He is also known for his connection to McVitie’s biscuits, as his family boasts a historic connection to the company’s founder.

The 32-year-old, who joined Made In Chelsea during its second season, is currently in a relationship with Sophie Habboo, who also stars on the series.

So who is Sophie, and how is Jamie linked to the best-selling biscuit producer in the UK?

Who is Jamie’s girlfriend Sophie Habboo?

Social media influencer Sophie, 26, joined Made In Chelsea during its 14th series in 2017.

She has been romantically involved with some of her Made In Chelsea co-stars in the past, including Alex Mytton and Sam Thompson.

But she and Jamie made things official in 2019, when news of their relationship became public.

Sophie grew up in Leamington Spa in Warwickshire and has a younger sister, Georgia, who works as a make-up artist.

The reality star boasts an impressive social media following, with over 340,000 followers on Instagram.

What is Jamie’s connection to McVitie’s?

Jamie’s great-great-grandfather, Sir Alexander Grant, developed the recipe for the McVitie’s digestive biscuit in the late 19th century.

Sir Alexander was a young employee at the time, having been hired at the company owned by baker Robert McVitie.

The recipe for the digestive biscuit has reportedly remained a secret to the present day.

Is Jamie the heir to McVitie’s biscuits?

While there are some who believe Jamie is in line to inherit a fortune due to his connection to McVitie’s biscuits, he has clarified that this isn’t the case.

During a recent interview with The Mirror, Jamie stated that he is ‘not heir to anything’.

Jamie, who founded his own confectionery company Candy Kittens in 2012, explained that being a descendant of Sir Alexander was a ‘nice “in”’ when he was cast in Made In Chelsea.

‘I think at the beginning of Made in Chelsea, it was all about affluent people and it was a nice story for them,’ he said.

Jamie added: ‘I’ve just got what I earn. Nothing else.’

Strictly come Dancing airs on tonight at 7.25pm on BBC One.
