Strictly Come Dancing 2021: Bill Bailey reveals what happens to the Glitterball trophy after anti-climatic final

Strictly Come Dancing champion Bill Bailey revealed he didn’t get the chance to celebrate his victorious win the way he would’ve liked.

The comedian and former dance partner Oti Mabuse were crowned the winners of last year’s series, beating HRVY, Jamie Laing, and Maisie Smith in the finale.

The special moment was also a historic one, as Bill officially became the oldest contestant to win at the age of 55, and Oti became the first professional to take home the glitterball for two consecutive years.

But what happened after he lifted the glitterball? Well, during his appearance on The Chris Moyles Show on Wednesday, the musician reflected on the buzzing feeling and described it as an ‘anti-climax.’

‘We never really celebrated afterwards,’ he explained.

‘We didn’t do any of that because literally, we went into lockdown about an hour after we did the live broadcast.’

‘I’ve got to say, it was a little bit of a kind-of anti-climax afterwards because we did a final, it’s like big pressure and all the rest of it,’ he added.

For many years, Strictly fans have wondered whether the stars get to keep the coveted trophy, and according to Bill, he didn’t get to.

‘We win, and we get the big trophy and [cheers] and all the glitter and confetti is going off, and then the live broadcast finishes, and all the lights in the studio come up.

‘And a bloke came up to me from the production and asked for the trophy back. Because you don’t get to keep it, you just, you know, you can hold it, but you don’t keep it.’

Seven couples currently remain in this year’s series of Strictly, following Sara Davies’ elimination over the weekend.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6:35pm on BBC1.
