In Saturday’s semi-final, tongues were definitely wagging (on social media at least) as the dynamic duo wowed with a seriously sensual Rumba.
Performing the passionate routine to Maria McKee’s Heaven, their sizzling chemistry was off the charts (as it is each week) – and fans remain convinced that what we’re seeing unfold between the two can’t just be for the small screen.
‘Thought Kai was going to say they were a couple for a minute!!!’ was one of the first comments on Twitter as the two went for a post-routine chat with Claudia Winkleman following their scores.
‘We have literally watched a love story unfold each week with these two and it’s been beautiful,’ wrote one fan.
‘Another fabulous dance and so sensual. They absolutely smashed it. They have amazing chemistry. Loved it,’ added another.
‘Couldn’t take my eyes off them. The connection, chemistry. FABULOUS,’ added another impressed Twitter fan.
They received a standing ovation from the crowd and the judges were equally impressed scoring them a 39 out of 40, with judge Anton Du Beke saying: ‘I rather loved it.’
Craig Revel Horwood, who’s notoriously difficult to impress, congratulated AJ on an amazing job, saying: ‘What an achievement, you did so well.’
Motsi Mabuse also commented on the connection between the Strictly couple, which she said she ‘loved.’
Meanwhile, Shirley Ballas, who’s known as the ‘Queen of Rumba’, bowed before them in admiration.
They scored a total of 79 out of 80 for their two dances, getting a perfect score of 40 for their energetic Quickstep earlier in the show.
They remain a firm favourite as contenders for the coveted Glitterball Trophy.
As for those budding romance rumours, for now they remain just that. Neither AJ nor Kai have officially confirmed they are dating, and AJ has joked that the rumours are actually slowing down her real prospects, as her DMs have been left dry.
Nonetheless, a source told The Sun that there were ‘sparks’ backstage between them, while an insider told the Mail On Sunday that they had become ‘inseparable’.
For now, we can only hope the rumours blossom into a reality.
The Strictly Come Dancing results show airs tomorrow at 7.20pm on BBC One.
