Giovanni Pernice is to dance to a classic heartbreak song on this week’s episode of Strictly Come Dancing, days after he’s said to have split with Maura Higgins.

This Saturday night, the professional dancer will perform a romantic Viennese Waltz with partner Rose Ayling Ellis to Alicia Keys’ lovesick ballad Fallin’.

The famous track sees Keys use her powerful voice to lament falling repeatedly in and out of love with the one who causes her ‘so much pain’.

It goes without saying that Gio’s Strictly performance this weekend is likely to be an emotional one.

After four months of what appeared on the surface to be a blissfully happy relationship, Giovanni and girlfriend, Love Island star Maura, sparked break-up rumours when fans noticed they had deleted almost all trace of each other from their Instagram accounts.

While neither have commented publicly, a source told The Sun that Giovanni ‘dumped’ the model and presenter two weeks ago, citing the couple’s busy schedules and saying he was not ready to settle down.

Representatives for Giovanni declined to comment on the story when approached by

Maura is said to have been blindsided by the decision and is ‘finding it very difficult to come to terms with [the breakup] as she ‘genuinely thought Gio was the one’.

News of their split came as a shock to many as the couple were thought to be taking the next step in their relationship, amid speculation they were moving in together.

Maura was said to have been ‘hugely supportive’ of Gio’s career on Strictly, despite the notorious ‘curse’– and the knowledge that his former flame Katie McGlynn was on this series of the show.

Along with Gio and Rose’s performance to Fallin’, this Saturday’s show will also feature music from Stevie Nicks, Olivia Newton-John, Shania Twain, One Direction, George Michael, Billy Joel, Édith Piaf, Michael Bublé, Harry Styles and Bruno Mars.

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday at 7.05pm on BBC One.
