Strictly Come Dancing star James Jordan has congratulated winners Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice on what has been ‘the best’ series ‘ever’.

The EastEnders actress, 27, beat Great British Bake Off’s John Whaite and Johannes Radebe, after a nail-biting final which saw both of them having equal scores on the leaderboard.

The former pro, who left the hit dance series in 2013 and is notorious for his weekly commentary of the show on Twitter, shared a heartfelt post on Instagram praising the couple’s triumphant win.

He wrote: ‘The most deserving winners of #Strictly ever! And what a series – in my opinion, one of the best if not the best ever.

‘Well done to all the amazing pros – celebs and everyone who works on the show to make it such a success.

‘I enjoyed watching Strictly this year more than ever – especially with everything that’s going on right now.

Deaf charity RNID (Royal National Institute for Deaf People) praised Rose’s astonishing win on Saturday night and thanked the star for providing a ‘beautiful insight into the deaf community and deaf culture’.

It was also a celebration for Giovanni, who has reached the final on three separate occasions, but thanks to Rose, he finally got his moment too.

He said: ‘Incredible. I have to say thank you to this beautiful young lady who made all my dreams come true.

‘It took me seven years to get that thing and you became the best dancer, the best teammate I could have asked for, you are a dream so thank you for everything.’

It was certainly a final to remember, as the judges were on their feet one minute and holding back tears in the next.

After they performed their inspiring Couple’s Choice for the second time, judge Anton Du Beke struggled to find the words to say without breaking down.

He told them: ‘I’m glad you didn’t come to me first! You absolutely slay me every time I watch you dance.

‘I’m a wreck every time I watch you dance. Do you know, when you see a moment like this the second time, it can sometimes lose its lustre.

‘And all I’ve written on this page is “just perfect” and… I’m going again!’

Strictly Come Dancing is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
