Janette Manrara speaks out on Strictly curse (Picture: BBC)
Strictly Come Dancing is well known for creating passion on-screen but now new It Takes Two host Janette Manrara has addressed the so-called ‘Strictly curse’.
The dance contest has been running since 2004 and will return with a new set of stars strutting their stuff this autumn.
In the past, some of those taking part have seen sparks fly off the dance floor and ended up in romances or relationships with some of their fellow cast members.
The ‘Strictly curse’ refers to those who split with their existing partners whilst taking part in the BBC One series.
Although it is often met with negativity, Janette has said it is ‘not the show’s fault’ some stray from their existing partners.
She told OK! Magazine: ‘That can be tricky for relationships. So I always say it’s not Strictly’s fault, couples just need to sit down and understand what they’re about to do before they sign up.

‘Those conversations really help but when those conversations are not had, it can sometimes be tricky to figure it out as you go.’
Janette went on to remind people how much time can be taken up when committing to the show, leaving little time for other things.
She noted: ‘It’s a very intense show – you’re with the same person for hours upon hours, day after day, week after week.’
‘The problem with that is that it does test a lot of relationships.’
Among those who’ve famously fell victim to the so-called curse include Seann Walsh and Katya Jones, who were spotted kissing whilst still with other partners during the 2018 series.

Katya was married to fellow professional Neil Jones at the time, with the pair eventually splitting in 2019.
Boxer Joe Calzaghe ended his relationship with his girlfriend at the time to begin a romance with Kristina Rihanoff after they were paired on the 2009 series.
Kristina later ended up in falling for another of her dance partners, rugby player Ben Cohen, who she now has a child with.
Janette has been married to partner and fellow Strictly pro, Aljaž Škorjanec since 2017 and the pair became engaged during their time on the programme together.
The US dancer admitted she’d felt being on Strictly with Aljaž was a blessing due to the fact they’d been able to spend more time with each other.
She will be taking over on It Takes Two from Zoe Ball, who announced she would be stepping back from the role earlier this year.
Janette will be joined by Rylan Clark-Neal as they gear up to give viewers the lowdown on this year’s series.
Zoe had previously been the show’s host since 2011 before confirming her departure back in June.
“Dance lovers, after 10 joyous years I am waltzing away from It Takes Two,’ Zoe wrote on Instagram.
‘As a massive @bbcstrictly fan I have loved spending my Autumn teatimes with the celebrity dancers, the gorgeous & awesome pro dancers, the judges, my girl Vicky Gill, Rylan, Gethin & of course my main man Ian Waite.
‘Time now for some new cha cha challenges.’
