With Strictly Come Dancing 2021 reaching the final stages of the competition, with only six couples left, fans will undoubtedly be upset when the BBC series draws to a close.

Nonetheless, there is still lots of Strictly razzle dazzle to look forward to, with the annual tour planned for 2022 and – of course – the Christmas special.

Six couples are due to compete on the festive episode in the hopes of impressing judges Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke, as well as the voting audience.

The news of the stars that are due to compete has already been announced, with several looking like possible contenders to take the Yuletide crown.

So who is taking part in the Strictly Christmas special this year?

Jay Blades

Jay Blades MBE, who is a modern furniture restorer, has become known across the nation for his starring role on The Repair Shop.

Also presenting other series including Jay’s Yorkshire Workshop, money for Nothing and Jay Blades’ Home Fix, he said he is ‘super excited’ to be on the Strictly festive special for two reasons.

‘One, because I’m going to learn a new dance apart from the “Dad” dance, and two because I’m going to be on Strictly! It’s a show that I’ve always admired, and I can’t wait to see how I perform!’ he said.

The 51-year-old is set to be partnered with professional dancer Luba Mushtuk.

Fred Sirieix

While maître d’ Fred Siriex is known for dishing out lessons in love for singletons in the First Date restaurant, he’s set to learn a trick or two when he graces the Strictly dancefloor.

Fred, who’s partnered with Dianne Buswell, expressed his hope that his moves ‘bring some Christmas joy’.

‘I absolutely love Christmas so I’m delighted to be taking part in the Strictly Christmas special and to be partnered with the magnificent Dianne,’ the 49-year-old said.

‘I hope my dance moves bring some Christmas joy to everybody watching at home and don’t make the judges say “Bah, Humbug!”’

Mel Giedroyc

Comedian Mel Giedroyc is known for bringing a smile to people’s faces, embarking on a new challenge as she joins pro Neil Jones for the Strictly festive episode.

The former Great British Bake Off presenter revealed that she is extremely excited to be competing, harping back to memories from her childhood.

‘I don’t think I’ve been this excited about Christmas since I got my first guinea-pig  from Santa in 1978,’ the 53-year-old said.

Moira Stuart

Moira Stuart, who’s been paired up with Aljaž Škorjanec, is an award-winning newsreader and TV and radio presenter.

Having been in the business for five decades and spent more than 40 years at the BBC, in 2019 she joined Classic FM to helm Moira Stuart Meets… and Moira Stuart’s Hall of Fame Concert.

‘I’m really looking forward to the Strictly Christmas special,’ the 72-year-old said.

‘I’ve loved dancing for as long as I can remember. In fact it even helped me try to keep warm in my early coldwater flat.’

Anne-Marie

Anne-Marie is swapping singing for dancing as she joins Strictly for the Christmas competition, having been nominated for nine Brits and delivered chart-topping hits throughout her career.

The Voice UK judge revealed how excited she is to dance with pro Graziano Di Prima, saying: ‘I’m excited to take part in the Strictly Christmas special. I love the show, and who would turn down a dance with Graziano?!’

So how will the 30-year-old fare against the other celebrities? We can’t wait to find out!

Adrian Chiles

Broadcaster Adrian Chiles will be taking to the dancefloor with new Strictly pro Jowita Przystal, who joined the series this year.

Having presented shows ranging from football to documentaries and talk shows in his career, the writer revealed that his loved ones didn’t have the best reaction when he told them he’d be vying for the title of Christmas Champion 2021.

‘Discouragingly, every one of my family and friends with whom I’ve shared this news, has reacted with horror,’ the 54-year-old said.

‘They can’t believe it I’m doing it, and neither can I. Thoughts and prayers with whichever poor dancer is lumbered with me.’

Strictly Come Dancing returns tonight at 6.55pm on BBC One.
