Strictly Come Dancing 2021: Who is former EastEnders star Nina Wadia?

Nina Wadia is the latest celebrity to join the 2021 series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The former EastEnders star revealed her place in this year’s competition during an appearance on Lorraine with Christine Lampard and she joins a star-studded line-up.

‘I’ve always danced like nobody’s watching, so if we blindfold the judges I could actually win Strictly 2021,’ Nina joked, as she shared insight into her dancing ability.

Who is Nadia Wadia? Age and husband of Strictly star

Nina Wadia OBE is an actress well known for many roles including starring in the BBC Two sketch show Goodness Gracious Me and Open All Hours spin-off Still Open All Hours.

The 52-year-old has performed in a variety of theatre productions including the Tony award-winning The Vagina Monologues and recently appeared in the live-action film remake of Aladdin.

Nina is also a regular presenter on BBC One’s Sunday Morning Live.

A JDRF ambassador, she received an OBE in the 2021 New Year’s Honours List for her services to charity and entertainment.

Nina is married to the composer Raiomond Mirza and the couple shares two children.

Who did Nadia Wadia play in EastEnders?

Nina starred as Zainab Masood in the BBC One soap EastEnders for seven years.

She made her first appearance in 2007 as the owner of Walford’s Post Office and clashed with employee Denise Wicks (Diane Parish) immediately. However, the pair later became friends.

Zainab had a number of huge storylines, including struggling to accept her son Syed’s (Marc Elliott) sexuality and relationship with Christian (John Partridge).

Over the course of her tenure, Nadia won best onscreen partnership and best comedy at the British Soap Awards.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.
