Strictly Come Dancing is said to be considering welcoming two same-sex couples to the competition when the series returns to the BBC later this year.

The show made history in 2020 when boxing legend Nicola Adams became the first contestant to take to the dance floor with a partner of the same gender, Katya Jones.

Sadly their time on the programme was cut short when Katya tested positive for coronavirus.

According to reports, bosses are hoping to take the upcoming season up a notch and sign both a male and female same-sex couple.

‘Bosses are still looking at all the options but given the positive feedback from last year, they’re seriously considering having two same-sex couples, one male and one female,’ an insider said.

They added to The Sun: ‘The show has to move forward and viewers loved last year’s series.’

Strictly Come Dancing is said to be returning with a live audience and will also be back for 13 weeks.

Reports also claim that its usual trip to the Blackpool Tower Ballroom is on the cards.

Last month, the professional dancers line-up was announced, with two-time champion Oti Mabuse on the bill as well as Anton Du Beke, the show’s longest-serving dancer who’ll be competing in his 19th series.

The celebrity line-up, however, still remains under wraps, but lots of names are being thrown about, including Line Of Duty star Gregory Piper.

Strictly Come Dancing is set to return to the BBC in the autumn.
