Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse will be forced to miss this weekend’s shows as she self-isolates following close contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19.

Taking to Twitter to break the news, Motsi wrote: ‘I am gutted to say I will have to miss this weekend on Strictly… yesterday, I was contacted by NHS Test and Trace as being in close contact with someone on Sunday 21st Nov who has since tested positive.

‘Being double vaccinated & booster [sic] as I am, would normally mean exemption from isolation under the ‘close contact’ rules, but unfortunately German EU vaccines are not recognized and neither is my booster in this instance – so I must follow UK Governmnet Guidance and can only return after 30 November 2021 to UK.’

She added: ‘Our health is the most important thing and luckily I have been tested multiple times this week and am negative. I am healthy, I am with my family that’s what matters!

‘I wish everyone good luck, sending you my love. Keep dancing. Until then, lots of love and stay safe xx.’

Last weekend, Craig Revel Horwood was forced to miss Musicals Week after testing positive for Covid.

He was replaced by theatre star and newly-cast Elphaba Cynthia Erivo, who the BBC have since confirmed will be back again this weekend.

A Strictly spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm Motsi Mabuse will not be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend. We are delighted that Cynthia Erivo will be joining us as a guest judge again, joining Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and Head Judge, Shirley Ballas on the judging panel.

‘We look forward to having Motsi back with us next weekend.’

Motsi later took to Twitter again to clarify why she had to self-isolate, saying that her BioNTech jab meant she could still travel ‘but if someone close to you is positive you will have to isolate unless your vaccination was administered in UK [sic].’

She added in German: ‘So if you are from Germany you must quarantine, it will not be recognised!’

Oscar-nominee Cynthia was a hit with fans when she stood in for Craig, with particular praise being given to the actress for using sign language when sharing her comments on Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovann Pernice’s Frozen-inspired quickstep.

When presenter Tess Daly asked the Harriet star what she thought of Rose’s characterisation in the dance, Cynthia responded by using sign language while telling the star that she is ‘joyful’.

‘That was so much fun to watch, and you managed to get all the characterisation and the mood and the feeling all in one. It was gorgeous, so thank you,’ she said.
