One Strictly Come Dancing star has had a rough week, as an infection has meant he and his professional partner haven’t been able to rehearse.
Jody Cundy, 44, who is teamed with 2022 champion Jowita Przysta, said it’s been a ‘week of highs and lows’.
Despite a solid start on Monday after surviving the first elimination, the gold medalist cyclist and former swimmer has been unable to practise as much as he would like in the lead-up to week 3 due to his inability to put on his prosthetic limb.
‘The first two days, totally flew by, the end of day 2, we’d done the routine a lot of times from start to finish, which I hadn’t done for the previous two dances,’ the sports star said to Janette Manrara on It Takes Two on Thursday (October 5).
‘Really confident that we could just perfect everything for Saturday, I got home on Tuesday night, took my leg off, and was like, “Ooh, that’s quite sore,” and didn’t really think too much of it. Cleaned it, bathed it, made sure it was all ok.
‘Then I got up around 4am, looked at my leg, and it was warm, swollen, and I was like, “That’s getting infected, I need to see somebody about it”.’
Jody was then sent to the hospital, where physicians administered antibiotics.
However, by the next morning, he still couldn’t get his leg on.
‘That was Wednesday’s training out,’ he added.
‘So, I tried again this morning (Thursday) to get my leg on, not been able to get my leg on today, but it is healing, it is getting better but at the moment I’m still not able to get my leg on.’
Jody continued: ‘The hope is that tomorrow the swelling’s gone down a little bit more and we’re in a situation where I can do a little bit of practice and pick up where we left off on Tuesday.’
Determined to see the positives, he added: ‘Fortunately, I’m in a position where I actually know the routine and we’ve gone all the way through.’
Taking to his Instagram Story after the show, Jody wrote: ‘You may have seen on It Takes Two, that I’ve picked up a minor niggle this week that’s meant I’ve missed a few days training.
‘Everything seems to be settling down and I hope to be back on the dancefloor this Saturday evening.’
Last week, Jody and Jowita scored 16 points for their paso doble.
Unfortunately, radio personality Nikita Kanda was the first contender to be evicted, as he lost in the dreadful dance-off.
After being knocked off Strictly, the TV veteran, 69, had nothing but admiration for the programme and his pro Nancy Xu, dubbing her as the ‘greatest teacher.’
‘She’s really put me through my paces,’ he said, before speaking to his partner directly.
‘I did as well as I could for you, I hope! That lot up there, I’m going to miss you so much,’ he stated to his fellow celebs.
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday and Sunday on BBC One and iPlayer.
