Strictly Come Dancing stars, including co-host Claudia Winkleman and former contestant Zoe Ball, have expressed their utter disappointment following the news that Nicola Adams has left the show after her professional partner Katya Jones tested positive for coronavirus.
In a statement released on Thursday 12 November, Nicola, 38, said she was ‘devastated’ her time on Strictly had come to a premature end.
‘Hey guys! I’m absolutely devastated my Strictly journey has come to an end so soon. ‘I had so much more to give and so many people to win this for!’ the boxer said.
‘But I just want to say a huge thank you to Katya for being the best dance partner anyone could ask for. She pushed me way out of my comfort zone and it’s been an incredible experience.’
Nicola added that while she is ‘gutted’ to not be competing in this year’s series anymore, she is ‘doing what I can to help’, explaining that she is going to spend the next 14 days in isolation posting a ‘ridiculous amount of TikToks’ and gaming.
Nicola and Katya made history on this year’s show when they became the first same-sex couple to participate in the competition, leaving fans ‘in tears’ following their first dance.
Fans and Strictly Come Dancing stars have shared their sadness over seeing Nicola and Katya exit the show.
‘We’re so sad about this. Nicola and Katya were completely brilliant. X,’ Claudia tweeted.
‘Gutted for Nicola and Katya. You made history girls. Sending them both all the love,’ wrote Zoe Ball, who took part in the third series of the dancing competition.
Susanna Reid, who competed on the show in 2013, also shared a message, which read: ‘This is such a shame for Nicola and Katya – and for the whole show too. Get well soon Katya.’
Meanwhile, numerous Strictly fans expressed their sadness over Nicola and Katya’s departure.
‘Omg Nicola and Katya are out of Strictly! Such a shame – I was really looking forward to seeing what they’d do next!’ one person said.
‘Oh no!!! Gutted for Nicola Adams and Katya!’ another tweeted.
Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 7.25pm on BBC One.
