Strictly Come Dancing has waltzed back on to our screens over the last few weeks.

Tonight’s live show is the second of series 19 – where stars such as John Whaite, Adam Peaty, Dan Walker and last week’s leaderboard-topper AJ Odudu will be dazzling us with their newly-practiced routines.

But one contestant is noticeably absent: McFly singer and children’s author Tom Fletcher.

He and dance partner Amy Dowden are officially skipping the live show, but why?

Here’s what you need to know.

Where are Tom Fletcher and dance partner Amy Dowden?

Unfortunately, Tom and Amy have both contracted Covid-19.

They were diagnosed the day after the first live show, and are now self-isolating separately.

It was a blow for dad-of-three Tom, 36, as he had a number of commitments up ahead.

Not only was he due to compete on the BBC One dance show – but also join McFly bandmates Danny, Dougie, and Harry for the last shows of their 2021 tour.

Tom took to Instagram to announce his diagnosis earlier this week, telling his two million followers: ‘Hi all, I know a lot of you have seen by now that I tested positive for Covid.

‘Thanks so much for all your messages. I’m fine, but it means that obviously I’m isolating and I can’t finish the McFly tour, which I’m so sorry, I’m so gutted about. It hurts so much letting you guys down.’

He also added in the caption: ‘Sending my best to all the @bbcstrictly team and looking forward to getting back on that dance floor with you @amy_dowden. X’

It seems that Tom is symptom-free for now – as he revealed he’d been keeping busy during his quarantine period.

On Thursday, September 30, he posted that he was stretching out his muscles – presumably knackered from weeks and weeks of Strictly dance training.

He later joked with a fan in an Instagram Q&A that Strictly and touring at the same time was a ‘silly’ idea.

Pro dancer Amy also shared earlier this week that she, too, was symptom-free.

Like Tom, she was keen to keep her mind active during quarantine, telling Instagram:

‘I have no doubt that over the next 10 days my mind will be going crazy with choreography ideas ready to get back on the Strictly dance floor for the live show in week 3!’

As things stand, Tom and Amy are expected to return to Strictly for the third live show on Saturday, October 9.

Strictly Come Dancing airs tonight on BBC One at 7pm.
