Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli has recalled ‘wanting to kill’ Craig Revel Horwood when they ran into car trouble while filming their new series, leaving us wondering how on earth anyone convinced the bickering pair to star in a show together.

In 2004, both Craig, 56, and Bruno, 65, made their debuts as judges on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, delighting the nation with their unparalleled dance expertise and strong personalities.

Last month, it was announced that they would be swapping the dancefloor for the open road, checking out some of the most beloved road trips in Britain for a new ITV show.

While travelling to regions including Cornwall, the Cotswolds, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District might sound idyllic, the pair revealed during a recent chat that their time together wasn’t always a smooth ride.

While speaking to Radio Times, Craig and Bruno both claimed to be a better driver than each other.

Craig remarked that he was the ‘safest’ of the two, with Bruno dubbing him ‘Hyacinth Bucket’, after the Keeping Up Appearances character.

When asked whether Craig was a back-seat driver, Bruno said that his Strictly colleague was ‘the mother-in-law in the back of the car – but even worse because he was sitting next to me’, adding: ‘I wanted to kill him.’

‘Only because you crashed the car,’ Craig retorted, to which Bruno replied: ‘I didn’t crash the car! He made such a drama. He was screaming.’

Craig explained that when Bruno was reversing the vehicle, he tried to warn him about rocks that were in the way.

Bruno responded by stating that he’s been ‘driving for over 34 years – before colliding with something, which is ‘when he threatened to kill me’, Craig said.

Nonetheless, Bruno added that ‘it wasn’t a crash’ and that they both laughed over the whole situation.

Despite having worked together for 17 years, Craig remarked that it was ‘good to get to know Bruno a bit better’.

He said that while taking part in their new series, they would forget that they were filming a TV show, with the pair realising they came from ‘really similar backgrounds’ as they arrived in London ‘with nothing’.

Bruno is set to be replaced as a judge on Strictly in 2021 by Anton Du Beke as he’s unable to take part in the upcoming season.
