Strictly Come Dancing contestants are never shy of an injury or two in the name of nailing a routine – and Clara Amfo is the latest to pay that price.

The BBC Radio One DJ, who soared to the top of the leaderboard last night with Aljaz Skorjanec, shared on Instagram a particularly painful looking injury.

After performing a Charleston to classic track Baby Face, Clara posted a video in which her fingers are bandaged up after getting too ‘enthusiastic’ with her routine.

She joked: ‘This happened at some point yesterday – I don’t really remember.

‘It was during rehearsal or the actual dance — too much enthusiastic Charleston-ing!.

‘Worth it though!

‘It will go down I’m sure – I’m just going to be a left-hander today, and just enjoying the day.’

It surely was worth it, with the star earning the highest score of the series so far and landing 29 out of a possible 30.

While Craig Revel-Horwood gave her a nine, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke – who was filling in for Motsi Mabuse – both delivered a 10.

As the competition heats up, it marks a major breakthrough moment for Clara, who until then had been stuck in the middle of the leaderboard.

But the fun and high energy routine definitely paid off, with the pair playing a loved-up couple in a perfume parlour.

Clara wasn’t the only one to receive 10s last night – with HRVY and Janette Manrara’s salsa to BTS track Dynamite earning the first 10 of the series.

Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse followed shortly behind with another 10 from Shirley for their Couples’ Choice routine to Rapper’s Delight by Sugarhill Gang.

However, at the other end of the leaderboard was JJ Chalmers and Amy Dowden, who only earned 17 for their jive to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.

The elimination will take place later tonight.

Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One.
